Dazzlingly beautiful hedges

Photinia, otherwise known as Red Tip Photinia, is a remarkable shrub that promises to add a splash of dazzle and colour to every garden. We particularly love it here at our four-star campsite Les Jardins de La Pascalinette ® for its ability to offer splendid hedges that serve to mark out the campsite’s various plots, while guaranteeing our holidaymakers absolute privacy! Native to Asia, this member of the Rosaceae family is appreciated for its shiny, evergreen and often red leaves, which offer a striking visual show in every season.

Photinia boasts a fascinating history as an ornamental plant. Renowned in Asia for centuries for its beauty, photinia began to gain popularity in Europe and North America from the 19th century onwards. However, its true hour of glory came in the 20th century when hybrid varieties were developed, offering a diversity of colours and sizes that captivated gardeners around the world. You will see Photinia everywhere in Provence and the Var area, French Riviera-Côte d’Azur, as this plant is one of our gardeners’ favourites!

Magnificent and easy to grow

In addition to its beauty, Photinia is appreciated for its ruggedness and ability to adapt to various growing conditions. This hardy shrub generally thrives without a lot of upkeep in full sunshine or partial shade and dry or moist soils.

But beware, Photinia does have its whims: some varieties are prone to a fungal disease called leaf spot, which can cause its leaves to die off.

As a result, growers have developed several varieties that are more resistant to the disease, helping to improve the reputation of Photinia as a sustainable garden plant.

Whether used as the centrepiece for a hedge or a colourful accent in a flower bed, this shrub captivates plant lovers across the world and – of course – here at our beautiful nature campsite!
