Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel)
Presentation
Numerous medicinal properties
Hamamelis virginiana, also referred to as witch hazel, common witch hazel, American witch hazel or beadwood, is a fascinating plant with many medicinal uses found along the pathways of our four-star campsite Les Jardins de La Pascalinette ® in the Var, French Riviera-Côte d’Azur. Originating from North America, it has long been appreciated for its healing properties.
This deciduous shrub produces vibrant yellow flowers that bloom in autumn, when few other plants offer such a gorgeous show. However, its leaves, bark and extract are of the most interest to herbalists and specialists in alternative medicine.
Natural health
Witch hazel has traditionally been used for many centuries to treat various ailments, including skin inflammations and other irritations. Thanks to its astringent, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, it is regularly included as an ingredient in skin care products and healing ointments.
In traditional Chinese medicine, it is often used to treat bruises and contusions.
What’s more, witch hazel is reputed as having beneficial effects on blood circulation, helping to reduce swelling and relieve pain associated with various health conditions. Luckily, here at your favourite seaside campsite, you can always count on the whirlpool baths at our water park or the private jacuzzi adorning your Quintessence® mobile home to relax your tired muscles after a long hike! 😉
