A touch of history… How this unique park was born
An agreement was signed between the town council and Albert Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire (then director of the “Jardin d’acclimatation” in Paris), allowing the creation of a garden for tropical plant species adapted to the region’s climate. The park was initially called the “Jardin d’acclimatation de Hyères (Var) Clos-Ricquier” and was attached to the “Jardin d’acclimatation” in Paris.
The pride and joy of the town, it was also home to one of its first genuine palm groves, created in the late 19th century thanks to Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire .
The park was reworked in 1965 and 1991 to restore its original splendour.
