Located in Toulon, just 20 minutes from Hyères, the Muséum Départemental du Var celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2018. Recently modernized and disabled-friendly, the museum hosts regular events together with a permanent exhibition starring no less than 2,000 items (out of the museum’s collection of 250,000 treasures!).

This free museum offers a fascinating line-up of local minerals, 18th-century herbariums, astonishing reproductions of hominids (great apes), plus a host of local fauna including mammals, birds, insects and even dinosaur eggs… A real eye-opener!

To get to the museum, you’ll need to cross the magnificent Jardin Départemental du Las, home to numerous plant species from the world over! A proud holder of the “Remarkable Garden” label, the park’s centrepiece is a huge old cedar tree, standing guard over the site.
A botanical footpath, playground and stream where you can dip your feet… The Jardin du Las is a children’s paradise!
